Now you have to survive in harsh conditions of deprivation of freedom, where every day is full of trials, humiliations, and struggles for basic respect. The colony chief is your opponent, a person carrying out his duty. He believes in the fairness of punishment, and his task is to maintain order and punish violators. He can be an impartial upholder of the law, or he can turn into a ruthless tyrant, breaking the will of the prisoners.
